Ripened Jackfruit Chips from malenadu are made from ripe jackfruit bulbs, sliced thin and fried in sunflower oil. Unlike the usual raw jackfruit chips, these carry a natural sweetness from the ripe fruit, so you get crunch and a gentle fruity taste in every bite.
Why ripe Jackfruit Chips are special
Jackfruit grows everywhere in Malenadu. In the season, almost every farm has more fruit than the family can eat or sell. A lot of it used to go waste. Turning ripe jackfruit into chips is an old way of making the most of the harvest and it gives our farmers a better price for fruit that would otherwise fall and rot under the tree.
Ripe jackfruit is soft and full of natural sugar, so it is much harder to fry than raw jackfruit. It burns easily and it can turn chewy if the oil is not right. It takes patience and experience to get a crisp, golden chip with that sweet aroma. That is why you do not see these chips in every shop.
Ingredients
Just two: ripened jackfruit and sunflower oil. No added sugar, no preservatives and no artificial flavour. The sweetness you taste is only from the fruit.
How our Jackfruit Chips are made
The fruit is picked when it is fully ripe, cut open and the bulbs are separated by hand. Seeds are removed and the bulbs are sliced into thin strips. These are fried in small batches until they turn golden and crisp, then cooled and packed. Each batch is small, so the quality stays the same from pack to pack.
What do they taste like?
Lightly sweet, crunchy and with the unmistakable smell of ripe jackfruit. They are not salty or spicy. If you like jackfruit, you will like these. If you have never tried jackfruit, this is an easy way to start. Many people who do not like fresh jackfruit because of its strong smell end up liking these chips.

Jackfruit season in Malenadu
Jackfruit season usually runs from March to July, before and during the early monsoon. This is when the trees are heavy with fruit and the whole village smells sweet. Families make holige, dosa, payasa and happala from jackfruit during these months. Frying ripe bulbs into chips is one more way to enjoy the fruit long after the season is over, so you can taste a bit of Malenadu summer even in December.
Pack size and storage
Each pack holds 70g. Once opened, store the chips in an airtight container and finish them within a few days for the best crunch. Ripe jackfruit chips absorb moisture faster than salted chips, so do close the container properly, especially in the rainy season.
Supporting Malenadu farmers
malenadu is a farmer producer company from the Western Ghats of Karnataka. When you buy these jackfruit chips, the money goes back to the families who grow and process the fruit. It also helps make jackfruit a proper source of income for them, instead of a fruit that simply falls and goes waste every season.
These chips are also part of our Sweets & Savories Comboa festive box that many customers pick for gifting.
